Remembering September 11, 2001

September 11, 2001 was the day America changed. I was working on base, sitting at my desk when I overheard my co-workers talking about the news. They were standing outside the conference room watching the devastating news when the Twin Tower was hit by an airplane.

I jumped up and went to the conference room. We all stood and watched the news as another airplane hit the second tower. Then we heard the Pentagon had been hit. We all waited in silence for our next move.

We were placed immediately on the highest alert: Delta. We knew our jobs were the most important at this time. At this moment our beloved America was being attacked by an unknown enemy.

The next day traffic was unbelievable trying to get to work at the base. God bless the USA by Lee Greenwood played constantly on the radio - so many were praying for our nation.

Everyone was at a standstill - quietly waiting, hoping, and praying we would wake up and this disaster only be a dream.

An email went around the base telling everyone to wear red, white and blue to work on Friday - USA Pride Day.

Our president proclaimed the day a national day of prayer and remembrance for the victims of the Terrorist Attack.
