Writing Devotions





My devotions are published this week in Pathways to God, a devotional for the Church of God. I love writing on assignment for this editor. Writing devotions can be rewarding. They need to be written with care. Editors get many different types of material so make yours shine.

 

We need to always gear our work toward what the magazine wants. The editor will usually send a Scripture and outline for the assigned issue. Study the magazine and get new ideas on how to write for this publication.

 

Anecdotes should always be true and make them like a short story with a sharp beginning, middle and conclusion.

     

Skilled writers learn from their mistakes and keep on writing. Take time to read books on writing - there are many on the market. And remember most important - pray and seek Godly direction.

As Jesus stated: “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." John 15:5
