Women in the Bible - The Shunammite Woman

This is a powerful story of God’s plan of deliverance in these difficult times.  The woman from Shunem did not realize what she was doing when she fed Elisha the prophet.  Her miracles started from the beginning as she offered food to Elisha.  She was simply going about her daily life living for the Lord.

“Now is happened one day that Elisha went to Shunem, where there was a notable woman, and she persuaded him to eat some food.  So it was, as often as he passed by, he would turn in there
to eat some food.”  2 Kings 4:8

She knew he was a prophet of God, so she provided meals for him whenever he came to town.  She may have not realized it but she was sowing seed, powerful seed into the Kingdom of God.

She saw an anointed man of God doing the work of the Lord and she got involved.  She wanted to bless him.  And in turn, God blessed her.

When she saw Elisha’s consistent need, she moved to do something about it!  “And she said to her husband, “Look now, I know that this is a holy man of God, who passes by us regularly.  Please, let us make a small upper room on the wall; and let us put a bed for him there, and a table and a chair and a lamp stand; so it will be, when ever he comes to us, he can turn in there.”  2 Kings 4:9-10

When we give consistently and continuously as God leads, the desires of our heart begin to come true.  The offering that the Shunammite woman gave was a significant and powerful seed of her faith.  Today, we can place ourselves in position for God’s power to enter our life by the seeds we sow.

It was at this time the Lord put a question on Elisha’s heart…. “And it happened one day that Elisha said to Gehazi his servant, “Call this Shunammite woman…Say now to her, ‘Look, you have been concerned for us with all this care.  What can I do for you?”  2 Kings 4:11-13

She received her miracle, a son!  The woman conceived, and bore a son when the appointed time had come, of which Elisha had told her.”  2 Kings 4:17

Have you received a miracle in your life?  I’ll never forget many years ago when God opened a door only He could open.  An opportunity of a lifetime happened soon after going to work.   I received a promotion within three months. The new job I worked in had personnel going to Israel several times a year for meetings. I had the opportunity to go to Israel a few months later.

God has a plan for his children. We are to manifest Christ to a world that is lost!  Are you ready for God to change your life?  The only requirement is you must do what He asks of you.   God has blessed us over and over again and this is a testimony of His goodness.  I can not stress the importance of trusting and obeying Him.

As the woman from Shunem continued giving, God gave!  She needed another miracle when her son grew older and he became ill.  God heard her prayers and answered saving him by bringing him back to life.  If she had not sowed her seeds, she would have lived an ordinary, forgotten, childless, shattered, bankrupt life.  But because she gave God gave.
