I. Pick a Working Title - The shorter the title the better - My first novel is A Time to Remember. Recommended from various editors - four words or less. You also can have a sub title.
II. Write - Beginning, middle and end. Best if the book concentrates on a time span. Where does your book start? Keep adding as thoughts occur to you. Decide where you will finish. I like to write an outline first. This simplifies guessing and helps guide me along. Ideas to write about - where you are, your favorite room in your home, your best childhood friend, your greatest fear, biggest regret, favorite food, and vacations. Start off writing 15 minutes a day for a week. Set goals to complete the first chapter, etc.
III. Journal - Writing a daily journal will be as asset to help with your memoir. Write about interesting topics going on in your life.
IV. Read books on writing - On Writing Well by author William Zinsser - Writing and Selling Your Memoir by author Paula Balzer - How to Write a Memoir in 30 Days: Step-by-Step by author Roberta Temes, PHD
